THE RELUCTANT EVANGELIST
But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. MATT. 5: 44-45
The preacher Greg Laurie shared this story:
My mother was married and divorced seven times. I had the privilege of sharing the gospel with several of my mother’s husbands, including Oscar Laurie, the man who adopted me. He came to faith in Christ, and I was very thankful for that. However, there was another husband of hers whom I will call Eddie. He was an alcoholic and almost killed my mother one night when he was drunk.
After I became a Christian, I sensed that God wanted me to share the gospel with Eddie. But I didn’t really want to. I thought, He is a bad man, and I don’t want to talk to him again. I don’t want to see him again. But I went anyway. And I would like to say that it was a glorious experience and that he got down on his knees and accepted Christ. But I can’t say that. He listened to me. He was nice. He was pleasant about it and said, “Well, you know I am glad this has happened for you, Greg
The story shows the 2 most probable outcomes when we witness. We all have someone in our life, that we may think we cannot forgive or forget how they hurt us and we do not want anything more to do with them. It may be someone who has disappointed us. We feel we don’t want to talk to them ever gain much less share the gospel with them.
As believers, we are to overcome our personal prejudice and hang-ups. FYI—I am preaching to the mirror here! Instead of saying “no way Lord,” we need to be saying “Yes, Lord!” ok…here it is again…………BE WILLING!
See what God will do! They may be an Oscar or and Eddie from the story above.
Let’s see what God will do!!
When I was a very small child, ..I KNOW WHEN WAS THAT (never small...still a child in many ways)….….but I was very curious. I wanted to get into everything. There was an old dept. store in Athens AL my mom would go in once a week on our weekly trek to the bank, drug store, etc. I was always going in the back supply room etc. where I was not supposed to be and they could not find me. In an attempt to scare me from going in the back, there was an older gentlemen who worked there who told me that there was this big giant mean monster of a bear back there guarding the place. Well, I just took his hand, and with wonderment in my voice said….LET’S GO SEE!!!
That is the story that popped into my mind when I said LET’S SEE WHAT GOD WILL DO!! or LET’S GO SEE.
There may be someone right now in our lives whom we regard as the enemy.
What can we do?
What should we do?
Share the gospel, leave the result to God. LET’S GO SEE WHAT HE WILL DO!!!!!
“How you will be remembered after you are gone is determined by how much and how deeply you love ALL others now!”
