THE RACE IS A TEAM SPORT

THE RACE IS A TEAM SPORT

“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching(Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV).

In our spiritual walk with Jesus, in the life we have chosen to traverse with Him, we must remember that it is a race, but that it is a marathon of a race and not a sprint. And, we also need to remember that this is a team sport. We should not run the race alone. Believe me, I have tried, and I in no way can do this alone. No one can run the race FOR you….but they can run the race WITH you.

I know what happens without support. You ultimately give up! I liken it to this. At the end of practice, we had to run wind sprints, gassers, etc. whatever you want to call them. These were done after a long hard hot practice. But you had to do them to work on your endurance and push yourself when you are most tired. There were times on that last sprint or two, where we had to give maximum effort or we would have to run it again. I can tell you those last 30 yards were the hardest real estate I ever traversed. Doing that alone, I would have given up. But I had teammates, yelling, screaming encouragement, building me up….imploring me to not give up!...I don’t know how fast I was running……but I was not going to let those guys down. Through excruciating exhaustion, I picked em up and put em down as fast as I could. I collapsed in pure joy and victory with my teammates once the finish line was crossed. This is what I am talking about with our spiritual race.

Who has your 6? Who is your team? I am fortunate to be part of a team of men in my church who bring it all the time. Each one steps up to fill in at the others moment of weakness. Encouraging and loving one another. Men of differing talents….Men of varying personalities. They all come together in one accord to love God and love all people. I can’t possibly think of giving up on those tough days knowing those on my team are cheering me on and loving and encouraging me. They are like my teammates on the football field screaming for me to keep going in that effort to cross that line. I get an awful feeling at the thought of letting them down. They are my support.

The verse today states we are to consider how to spur one another on toward love and good deeds, and not giving up having team meetings…as some do… BUT ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER!!

You need your small group! You need to have your small crew spurring you on and you doing the spurring on, in our spiritual lives. Your crew….or your posse….or your team will hold you accountable but also encourage you on…..we all know 2 are better than 1 and 3 better than 2….it goes on and on as it is pretty simple math.

My team knows how to pray for me when I don’t know how or what to say.

My team helps me persevere in my race and serves as a blessing when I can reciprocate that.

My team serves the best team owner of all time: Father God

My team has the best GM and Athletic Director GOAT: Jesus our Savior and Lord

And my team has the best instructor, inspirational coach anyone could have: The Holy Spirit

Talk about a Championship Team. We love our OWNER/GM/and COACH and we love one another.

Come join our team and get connected with your small unit that has your 6?

“Whatever else you may be contemplating giving up on in your life, make sure you do not give up on God. I am on your sideline yelling for you to not give up! God will never give up on you!”
