THANKFUL FOR OUR FORGIVENESS
THANKFUL FOR OUR FORGIVENESS
Luke 7:41-42 41"Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?"
This parable arose out of the story of the woman who had some bad character issues in her life that the whole community was aware of that had come in contact with Jesus. This one woman had braved the scorn of the townspeople to go see this Jesus. Jesus was having dinner at one of the Pharisees house and that is where she caught up with Him.
She came there with a jar of perfume and as she stood close to Him she began to weep. I am sure I would/will probably do the same. She began to wet his feet with her tears and she wiped them with her hair and kissed them and poured perfume on them. So Simon, the Pharisee is condescending to the whole thing and uses it in his thoughts to himself, to rationalize that this man could not be a prophet for surely he would know that she is a sinner.
So, Jesus, knowing what Simon the Pharisee was thinking put the parable in Luke 7: 41-42 to him.
So, I ask you, who loves Him who forgives more? “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.” One who has been forgiven little loves little . One who has been forgiven a lot, will love a lot.
SIMON OFFERED NO WATER FOR JESUS FEET……WOMAN WET HIS FEET WITH TEARS AND WIPED THEM WITH TEARS
SIMON DID NOT OFFER JESUS A KISS OF GREETING…..WOMAN FROM THE TIME SHE ENTERED ROOM DID NOT STOP KISSING HIS FEET
SIMON PUT NO OIL ON JESUS HEAD….WOMAN POURED PERFUME ON MY FEE
HER MANY SINS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN…..AS HER GREAT LOVE HAS SHOWN.
One lesson to draw is that sin is death. “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6: 23 So each one of our debts is that of death. To me, we have all been forgiven A LOT…..and therefore…should be loving A LOT; Him and each other. Our thankfulness and praise should attempt to mirror the insurmountable debt we had incurred that He forgave. THANK YOU LORD FOR MY FORGIVENESS!!!
“Forgive others as quickly as you expect God to forgive you!”
