SPIRITUAL FITNESS HABITS
“Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come” (1 Timothy 4:8 NLT).
I constantly harp on the importance of practice, practice, practice, or you have heard me say REPS, REPS, REPS. All we are doing there is developing habits…good habits…so that an intended action becomes second nature. We need to develop good habits physically, emotionally, and spiritually so that we can love others as God requires. The Bible says real love “always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:7-8 NIV). We cannot love people that way without God’s help.
We cannot love like that if we are spiritually empty and out of shape. Check yourselves for spiritual burnout. You may feel loving someone is not worth the effort. We start to blame God for our problems. If you do that, you are not alone. You, Me, David, Moses, and Abraham all did the same thing when they were burnt out.
We maintain spiritual fitness just as we do physical fitness. We must be intentional and disciplined. We must train for godliness as we do for our physical fitness. The first habit or rep to enact is spending regular, daily time with God. Block out a time of the day where there are not distractions, and it is just you and God! Nothing helps your life more than time alone with God so the more time you can block out the better!
Let God talk to you through the Bible and through prayer. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 4:16 that even if outwardly your body suffers wear and tear, inwardly you can be spiritually renewed by spending time alone with God. This can take just 10 minutes in your living room chair before your day starts. We need that time alone with God.
THE QUALITY OF THE RELATIONSHIP WE HAVE WITH GOD,
DETERMINES THE QUALITY OF EVERY OTHER RELATIONSHIP WE HAVE!!!
HUMAN LOVE WEARS OUT!!!
LOVING MORE LIKE JESUS WILL MAKE OUR QUIET TIME OUR #1 PRIORITY IN YOUR DAY.
WHEN WE DO QUIET TIME, OUR RELATIONSHIPS WILL BE TRANSFORMED BY THE POWER OF GOD’S LOVE THROUGH US.
