Life Verses

Updated: Apr 1, 2020

James 1:5-7, Life Verses

The Bible is such a blessing. It is known as the living Word of God. God’s Word becomes alive to every believer who seeks God’s voice. Certain verses come to life more than others depending on where God has led you. When they come to the forefront of your mind, they become what some call a “life verse.” Proverbs 3:5-6 struck me early in my Christian walk. Those verses say, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.” For many years I gave up understanding where God was leading me and just let Him guide me. But, I always needed more wisdom.

Now that I’m a Pastor, I go to James 1:5-7 more often than any other verses. These verses say, “5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” These verses give me peace and hope when others ask me questions or for advice.

These verses begin with “If any of you lacks wisdom…” I think that is a kind way of saying everyone on the planet. The answer for all of us is to ask God for wisdom. Solomon did it and God blessed him. The confidence with which this verse is written inspires me to keep coming back to God. There is a warning attached to this promise however. The warning is not to ask with doubt in your heart. Asking in faith means trusting God for results. In this case the results would be the gift of more wisdom. What an amazing gift.

Whatever you are lacking today, pour over the scriptures and find the verse that speaks to you. Find your life verse and memorize it. Recite it out loud whenever you need strength, wisdom, peace or whatever the verse is about. God gave us His Living Word to make a difference in our lives. For me, my lack of wisdom keeps me up at night. That is until I remember these verses and ask God in faith. I love how God’s Word constantly changes and transforms me little by little. I hope you find that relationship with God’s Word, too.

Love, Your Brother-in-Christ,

Pastor Rob
