HOT OR COLD
“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” REVELATION 3: 15-16
Kids can be brutally honest! If you want to know the unfettered truth about something, ask a kid. This is especially true about something they do not like to eat or tastes bad. You beg and cajole and use all the trickeration at your disposal to get them to try new, and usually good for them foods. Young kids, if it hits their mouth, and they do not like it, then they spit it out!! No questions asked.
This is what Jesus said He felt about being lukewarm. When you are weighing things out, doing your due diligence and an analysis for a key decision, then you look at all sides of the equation. But when you have committed to the decision, it is time to sell out and be 100% steaming hot committed. No place for lukewarm.
Speaking to those who are lukewarm about their faith in Revelation 3, Jesus said ““I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” He will spit you out!!!!! This is pretty cut and dried that Jesus does not like lukewarm.
But, is it not better to at least be lukewarm rather than cold? One could argue NO , not really!
A cold person, who has no interest in the things of God, may be closer in a way, to coming to Christ than the lukewarm person.
The cold person could be contemplating getting right with God. The cold person could be more receptive to hearing our case for Christ than the lukewarm.
The lukewarm person plays it safe or you hear them say things like “I have heard this already or I know this already.” Lukewarm rides the fence, trying to play both sides. They want their cake and eat it too!
A spiritually cold person is more likely to know that they have a need.
A spiritually lukewarm person does not think they have a need…herein, the problem!!
A spiritually hot person is sold out 100% for God and is all in on their commitment to the Lord!!
SPIRITUAL COMES IN 3 TEMPERATURES: COLD, LUKEWARM, AND HOT
