GOD CHEERS US ON!

“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26 NIV).

As a young man, this verse was sung as a benediction in my church. It was used quite often as a parting message. God smiles at us at every stage of our journey and not only just when we are doing good and moving forward in our spiritual maturity. He smiled at me when I became and was a new Christian. I was an infant in Christ learning and struggling to know what it meant to follow Him. And my Father God smiled. As I have matured in my journey, my God smiles. I always thought all the times in between when I went all prodigal and walked the other way, He still smiled. You do that for the children you love. And, He loves them all!!

Learning and understanding who I am in Christ led me to some pretty neat conclusions. The truth is, God is never ashamed of me. He hates the sin in my life, but He never gives up on me or stops loving me. Paul wrote of his imperfections. God was not ashamed of Paul’s imperfections. God is not ashamed of mine. God is not ashamed of yours or anybody’s.

GOD IS CHEERING US ON. Can you imagine the voice of God yelling for us? God wants to bless us all. God wants us to be fulfilled in our calling. This verse today is God’s message to His people at a time they were wandering in the desert. The Israelites were far from perfect. Like me, they made poor decisions. Like me, they had weak faith. They chased different gods. Nevertheless, God smiled on them. God smiles on me. God smiles on you!
