“When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and released his spirit.”

John 19: 30

That word is the ultimate one to hear when pursuing some sort of goal. Whether it is a test you took in school, or a race you ran, or a work out you completed…it may have been the finishing of your educational degree or some hard working goal you have accomplished. The relief of saying or realizing…finished….

The cross was the goal of Jesus from the very beginning. His birth was so there would be His death. This was for our atonement. He was born to die so that we may live. And when He had accomplished the purpose He had come to fulfill, He summed it up with those words……”It is finished”

In the original Greek, it was a common word. I can imagine Jesus using the word after He and Joseph completed some sort of job in the carpentry shop. I can see Him detailing up and refining the ending of some piece or project and turning to Joseph and saying with a craftsman sense of accomplishment….”Finished…now let’s have lunch.”

It is important to remember that IT IS FINISHED, not I AM FINISHED. HE IS STILL THE GREAT I AM.

So what is Finished? Finished and Completed were the horrendous sufferings of Christ.

Never again would He have to bear the sins of the world.

Never again would He, even for a moment, be forsaken of God.

That was completed and taken care of.

A very big point to remember:

JESUS DEALT A DECISIVE BLOW AGAINST THE DEVIL AND HIS DEMONS AT THE CROSS OF CALVARY. Satan began to celebrate the death and burial. He forgot one thing! It aint over til it is over. The game clock had not hit 0:00. Death yes, burial yes, AND RESURRECTION! DBR--

Hebrews 2: 14 says “That through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is the devil”…We no longer have to be under power of sin. Jesus accomplishment at the cross, finished the stronghold of Satan on humanity.

Finished was our salvation. Our salvation is complete. It is done. All our sins are on Jesus today hung on that cross. He transferred his righteousness to our account. So that transfer is finished. JESUS SAID SO “It is finished” the completion of a well thought out plan…it is finished REJOICE. Jesus completed the finished work He came to do.

Have you personally accepted this finished work? If not, now is the best time to do so!!!

“In our ever-changing and puzzling world, Jesus is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow, and forever; His love for you will never change.”
