BE LIKE JESUS--STEP 1

“We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith” (Hebrews 12:2 NLT).

This quaint saying actually has a lot to say when it comes to how to conduct ourselves in being like Jesus. You have heard “you cannot expect to soar with eagles if you are running with turkeys.” This is a great lesson for our spiritual lives.

Certain relationships will drag us down and we really should minimize the time spent in those. If we hang out with people with no ambition…guess what…we will have no ambition.

If we hang out with people who are constantly critical….again…we become critical.

The people we spend the most time with will influence what we are like on a daily basis: AGREED?

So what is the obvious thing to do? As the verse says, keep our eyes on Jesus. We need to hang out more with Jesus if we want to be more like Him. We need to spend time with Him every day and I personally believe every second of every day. Our spiritual growth depends on it.

I recommend to find a special place, a prayer closet if you will, to spend alone time with God every day. My personal alone time is on my 20-25 minute drive to work every morning and the drive back. And in between, since I need Him every second of every day, I try to be constantly in communication with Him. To be more like Him I have to talk to Him more and ask Him more and share more of me with Him as well.

It does not matter when you do it, just do it. Find time free of distractions. Take the Word with you. Read it. Listen to Him talk to you through it. Talk to Him about EVERYTHING that is going on in your life. He already knows but wants to hear it from you. He is not unlike our earthly parents. Remember how they wanted us to share our days with them when we got home from school, etc. Same goes for our Father God!

And along the plan of being more like Jesus, you know He made a habit of going to a place where he could talk to His heavenly Father? Luke 22: 39 39”Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.”

SO STEP 1 IN BEING LIKE JESUS. SPEND QUIET TIME ALONG WITH THE FATHER. IF JESUS MADE IT A POINT TO DO SO, WOULD THAT NOT BENEFIT US TOO? IT’S THE BEGINNING IN HOW TO BECOME MORE LIKE HIM. AND, MORE THAN EVER, MORE AND MORE OF US NEED TO BE MORE LIKE JESUS!!!
