BE LIKE JESUS...GIVE
“Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had” (Philippians 2:4-5 NLT)
Every so often, I like to re-visit this marketing tag line that was famous for Gatorade back in the day.
At the zenith of Michael Jordan’s career and popularity, Gatorade told us to buy their product and “Be Like Mike” if you wanted to be successful. Well, I use that line to remind me to Be Like Jesus. The verse today says …”we MUST have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.”
God wants us to know that we can give WITHOUT loving. However we cannot love WITHOUT giving.
Think of these statements”
“I love my kids!” Do you give them your most precious asset? your time?
“I love my wife!” Do I give her my total attention?
These are the kinds of things love is about. Become more loving when we become more giving and generous.
When we are generous, a change takes place.
When we give, our heart moves one beat closer to God
When you give, every time you give, you become more loving.
When we give, we become more like Jesus!
Philippians 1:11 says, “May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God” (NLT). This is counter to all we know and see in our present culture. Society says take… take... take… take … and get…get…get and it is all about me…me… me. I want more stuff. I lovingly joke to my wife and friends that the world is Bob-centric or revolves around me. Yeah, that sigh you just exhaled and the rolling of the eyes is pretty much what she does. But, we do have a ME problem.
Be generous, it gets the focus off of you. Once the focus is off of you, then you are thinking about others. The verse says it all and quite simply. Take interest in others.
BE LIKE CHIRST!!!!
“Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion—it is a daily process whereby you grow to me more and more like Christ.” Billy Graham
